After opening in the spring of 2014, Q39 has quickly made its mark on the Kansas City barbecue scene. The Westport restaurant, owned by chef Rob Magee, continues to offer a fresh take on competition-style barbecue with new menu items and signature cocktails created by bar manager Jenn Tosatto.

Q39’s latest menu additions include an appetizer, a salad, three sandwiches and a dinner plate worthy of an American Royal award. And beginning Friday, hungry Kansas Citians can enjoy four of the new items on Q39’s lunch and dinner menus for Kansas City Restaurant Week. Here’s a look at the dishes:

Pork Belly and Sausage Corn Dogs

A fun take on the classic corn dog, these shareables are served on a stick with dipping sauce. The pork belly option is topped with sugar and comes with maple syrup for those that favor sweet and savory in one bite. The sausage option offers more traditional flavors and comes with barbecue sauce for dipping.

Spinach Salad

A lighter option for diners, Q39’s spinach salad features pickled onions, pecans, granny smith apples topped with warm goat cheese and a balsamic herb vinaigrette.

Triple Threat

This meat-filled sandwich doesn’t mess around—it combines sausage, pulled pork, and pork belly with apple coleslaw and barbecue sauce on a toasted bun.

Short Rib Griller

In between two slices of perfectly toasted bread is melt-in-your-mouth pulled short rib, caramelized onion, mushrooms and provolone cheese. Dunk the griller in the smoked beef jus for even more flavor.

Pulled Pork TaQos

Chipotle mayonnaise and jalapeno coleslaw add bite to the Q39’s Pulled Pork TaQos, served in flour tortillas for a simple, tasty dish.

Kickin’ Chicken Sandwich

There’s an audible crunch when you sink your teeth into this sandwich, which includes smoked fried chicken, chipotle mayonnaise and spicy pickle coleslaw on a toasted bun.

Jumbo Beef Short Ribs

The grand finale of Magee’s new menu items is the short ribs, which could easily feed a family of four but is good enough to save for yourself. The tender, juicy short ribs are served with white bean cassoulet, seasonal vegetables and classic barbecue sauce.
