When it comes to decorating your mantel for the holidays, it can be easy to get carried away with trees, candles, wreaths and garland galore. But these five fireplaces prove otherwise. By using simple props and incorporating a cohesive design, you can achieve the same look.

Rachel Parcell of Pink Peonies decorated her holiday mantel (shown above) with touches of red for a classic, timeless look that can be repeated year after year. It showcases how the effective use of garland and a few candlesticks can make a statement.

This festive design by Hi Sugarplum! features hot pink tapers from Ikea, a pre-made ornament garland and deer statues from JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store for welcome hints of color against neutral tones of black and white.

A fresh, clean look was the inspiration behind this mantel by Home by Heidi. The crisp green boxwood wreath coordinates with the striped ribbon and stockings found at Target. The black chalkboard above the mantle adds a DIY-element and a solid backdrop for the earthy color palette.
