Before she created her own jewelry line, designer Sierra Otto worked for Silpada Designs where she forecasted trends, traveled overseas and helped create pieces for the former Kansas City-based jewelry company. But it was her childhood in the Flint Hills that ultimately influenced the new brand she created on her own, Sierra Winter Jewelry.
Her first pieces under the Prairie Fire Collection include earrings, necklaces, bracelets and a ring, all heavily inspired by the Southwest. Otto’s use of genuine stones and high-quality metal give her collection a vintage, yet classic feel.
We were especially drawn to her Bluestem Earrings, which use an arrow motif and genuine turquoise for a bold, stylish look. The earrings, which retail for $229, were handcrafted and are a tribute to the Little Bluestem grass often found in the prairie.
The earrings come in sterling silver or yellow gold and would pair perfectly with a simple black dress, or an off-the-shoulder top and denim shorts for a more casual look. Either way, the earrings are what make the outfit.
Otto’s collection will be available to the public Friday for a pop-up shop at The Hair Parlour from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday at TallulahBelle’s trunk show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sierra Winter Jewelry is also available at Finefolk in the Crossroads and at Coveted Home on the Country Club Plaza.
